Uit een onderzoek van de Wageningen Universiteit blijkt dat Nederlandse wijnen gemiddeld een voldoende scoren (zie de Telegraaf, 9-2-2008).

De wijn wordt echter nog niet vaak aangeschaft voor eigen consumptie vanwege het prijsverschil met kwalitatief vergelijkbare wijnen uit het buitenland. De wijn vindt wel zijn weg naar de consument als kado ‘met een verhaal erachter’.
